Pulverize the soil completely by spading or plowing. If soil tests have been
conducted, apply fertilizer at the recommended rate. If
soil tests have not been
conducted, apply lime and a complete lawn fertilizer. Apply lime and fertilizer
at recommended rates and according to directions. Work lime and fertilizer
evenly into the soil then level the soil. Sow the grass seed, then rake, harrow,
or otherwise work the seed into the soil no more than ¼” to ½”. Keep the area
well watered until the seed germinates and the seedlings have grown sufficiently
to establish a lawn, then water as needed.
form a sod.
Overseeding or Reseeding With Fairway Classic Ryegrass
Fertilize as recommended in Method 1, except it is not necessary to work the
fertilizer into the soil. Mow or clip the existing grass as closely as possible.
Rake, harrow lightly, or aerate the soil where the existing grass is growing to
allow the seed to make contact with the soil. The existing grass will not be
adversely affected.
Eliminating Existing Lawns Before Planting Perennial Rye Grass
When you have a lawn with undesirable grasses you may use the following method
of ridding your lawn of these grasses and establishing a desirable lawn.
- During any growing season spray the established
undesirable lawn with a non-selective herbicide labeled for lawn use,
following the directions on the label. After the lawn turns brown, follow
instructions in method 1 or 2.
Planting Perennial Ryegrass To Cover Bare Spots In Lawns
First, mow closely, then remove leaves, dead grass, etc. Rake bare spots to
prepare the seedbed. Then follow fertilizer, water and planting instructions.
Care & Maintenance Of Perennial Rye Grass
Fertilize fall and early spring with a balanced fertilizer. Once lawn is
established, apply pre-emerge crabgrass preventer in early spring, weed & feed
in mid-spring. Use lime when pH is low. Water twice weekly when established.
Watering Your Perennial Fairway Classic Rye Grass
Water a newly seeded or overseeded lawn daily to maintain a constant source of
moisture for the seed. Do not allow the top ½” of soil to become dry. Once grass
begins to grow and establishes a lawn, reduce watering to twice a week with ½”
of water per application.
