GRASSES IN ALASKA
LAWNS FOR ALASKA: Kentucky Bluegrass and Fine Fescues (Red
Fescue) are the primary grasses in Alaska. You need to
select cultivars with good winter "hardiness" for best results.
Also look for cultivars with good resistance to "snow mold".
Perennial Ryegrass can be used in erosion prone areas as a nurse
grass until the selected variety establishes. Plant from Spring
breakup until Around the first of August. Best time to plant
is July to first of August. Lime is required for many soils.
If wet, you may need to improve the drainage.
