RECOMMENDED GRASS TYPES:
Primary grass in Arkansas is probably Bermudagrass. Both
common and improved Bermuda varieties can be found. While
Arkansas lies in a traditional zone, the cool season grasses
(Fescue, Ryegrass, Bluegrass) will struggle to survive the hot
summer temperatures when planted. They do fine through the
fall and winter, but don't expect them to survive a summer without
reseeding.

CHOICES.
SOILS: In North & NW Mountain areas,
soil is generally poor fertility. Low lands to the east are
more fertile, but may require lime for best growth.
RAINFALL: Usually evenly distributed - More wet in in May and
dryer in Fall (October).
PLANTING: Plant cool season grasses in the fall when day
air temps have reached 80 and are falling. Warm season
grasses should be planted in late spring / early summer after soil
temperatures reach 70+ (day air 80+) consistent and all danger of
freeze / frost is past.
