Recommended Grass For Hawaii Lawns
Hawaii sits in a tropical
zone area. Grasses used in zones
9 & 10 will grow in Hawaii. Mostly warm season grasses.
Bermuda grasses
know to the locals as Mahiki, is planted quite commonly.
Bermuda grass is very tough and resistant to areas of high traffic
but it is not very shade tolerant. Temple Grass, Korean Grass and
Emerald are forms of Zoysia
grasses that also grow well in Hawaii and tolerates shade
better than Bermuda grasses. If you are looking for a lawn with
high shade tolerance you may need to look into
St. Augustine grass
varieties. Centipede is occasionally planted.
