MONTANA LAWN GRASSES
Recommended Grasses -
Kentucky Bluegrass
is the most common lawn grass because of the low winter
temperatures. This grass grows slower in the
mid-summer and faster towards the end of summer. The summer time
is the best time to plant new lawns.
Fine Fescues are also an
important lawn grass. The blades are fine and almost needle like.
Fine Fescues provide good shade tolerance and drought resistance,
Also a heavily seeded lawn will form a dense carpet and be much
more wear resistant. Native
grasses such as Buffalo and Wheat grasses are good for areas
that have low amounts of available water.
