Recommended Grass For Virginia Lawns
West of the Blue Ridge mountains,
cool season grasses should be planted. These varieties include
Kentucky Bluegrasses,
Tall Fescue,
Fine Fescue and
Turf-Type Perennial Ryegrass.
Warm season grasses, such as Bermuda grasses
and Zoysia grasses may be planted in the southern Virginia areas of Piedmont and also the Tidewater areas.
Tall Fescue is good choice in the transitional areas of Virginia. DO NOT however mix Tall fescue with a Kentucky Bluegrass lawn. Tall Fescue does well throughout Virginia and has good drought tolerance.
